Abstract :
— In recent years, the 3D Network on Chips (3D NoCs) is an optimal solution to use multi-core processors and overcome the bandwidth limit of electrical connections. The use of optical communication technology for 3D NoCs in multi-core architecture has been very promising and effective in the performance of these networks. In the architecture of 3D Optical Network on Chip (3D ONoC) 4 and 5 port routers are applied at the corners and edges of the network and 6 and 7 port routers are used to transmit data. The structure of optical routers in 3D ONoCs affects the transmission efficiency of the entire network, so that providing optical routers with minimal loss is focused by the researchers in this field. In this paper, a non-blocking 6 router are presented based on the micro-ring resonator to reduce the loss in terms of the number of optical switching elements. Moreover, in this paper, a new routing algorithm is proposed to find the best route in terms of loss for the 3D ONoC, which is implemented on the proposed 6 port optical router. The proposed algorithm can choose the best route between the source and destination processing cores according to the architecture of the proposed 6 port optical router and the use of turning models. This optimal route has the least loss compared to other routes between the selected source and destination. To evaluate the optical routers and the proposed routing algorithm on 3D ONoC network, the parameter of loss are considered so that the simulation results show the improvement of network performance on the 3D ONoC compared to existing networks.
